Josh Mugford, MA

Licensed School Psychologist

By taking a strength-based approach, Josh provides comprehensive psychoeducational assessments to children, teens, and adults to learn how to best support your needs in school, work or other activities. Josh views assessments as a discovery process in which together, you uncover personal strengths and challenges to better understand your learning profile.

Josh takes a collaborative, holistic, and multi-systems approach to his assessments to identify any learning difficulties a person may have. His assessments include a thorough review of any important background history, identification of cognitive and academic strengths and challenges, information about how clients are feeling and functioning, relevant diagnoses, and evidence-based recommendations for how to best support you/your child. At the end of the assessment process, clients are invited to a personalized feedback meeting. There you will review the outcome of the assessment to learn more about your child in consideration of their learning profile and strengths. A report summarizing the results and recommendations will be provided that can be shared with teachers, doctors, university accommodation departments, coaches and more to access support.

Completing an assessment with Josh may be beneficial when you are asking some of the following questions:

  • What types of supports do I or my child need to feel confident, successful and effective?
  • Where is my child’s cognitive, academic or social-emotional development in comparison to their peers?
  • Does my child’s learning and abilities equate to a Learning Disorder in Reading/Writing/Math? What about ADHD? Or do they have an Intellectual Disability?
  • Am I or my child gifted?
  • Would my child benefit from any extra supports or an Individual Education Plan (IEP) at school?
  • Does my child meet criteria for a BC Ministry of Education Designation as a Student with Special Needs?
  • Is there anything about how my child learns or remembers or thinks that will help me parent them more effectively?
  • Is there anything about how I learn or remember that will help me be more successful in my job or relationships?
  • What are the types of post-secondary studies that will be a better fit for me or my child?
